Simply lift the brush and the canister automatically springs open. The patented, flexible neck allows for easy cleaning under the rim and in other hard-to-reach places. Champaz's Say's "Mummy Why Is Blacky So Sick"!!

Champaz's Say's "Mummy Why Is Blacky So Sick"!!

I was sitting on the floor today with Champaz while Blacky was asleep.... I wanted to spend some quality time with my boy.... I was telling Champaz how sick his big brother is and how he cannot play with him for a while.... He is so sad and looks very lonely in this capture, i know he miss's Blacky how they would have feral's and chase each other around, it seems like forever since they both did this...
CHAMPAZ SAY"S "GET BETTER MY BIG BROTHER, PLEASE I MISS YOU".....

BLACKY"S UPDATE FOR TONIGHT... At 7.23pm.... 13/6/2011...
Blacky's has been asleep for most of the day, he woke to have some biscuits and some dinner that i put out for Champaz and he's also had some water... Gave him the other 1/2 tablet for the day, that took some doing as his throat is still swollen and red but he did end up taking the tablet, then he had another little sleep ,till he woke up 15mins ago coughing and the crackling is still in his breathing after he cough's, so he still has another full week on the antibiotics before his appointment with the vet, so i hopeing nothing else is going to happen in the mean time... (FINGERS CROSSED) Michelle , Blacky and Champaz xxxxxxxxx...

ANOTHER UPDATE...At 10.10pm...13/6/2011..
Blacky just threw up all over the floor and has diarrhea again, its the same as last night... Hes all hot again and his nose is warm again.... I have to get him to the vets ASAP he looks so sick right now its heartbreaking he's sitting right in front of me as im trying to type this out and hes meowing non stop at me like he was doing last night, is he in pain ???? i dont know all i know is these tablets are whats making him sick and i don't like that! ok i have a big messy mess to clean right now, update when i speak to the vet, Michelle..

UPDATE, UPDATED!! At 4.18pm... 14/6/2011....
Sorry im late with the update from the vets, as iv'e been sitting with Blacky on the lounge for most of the day.... He's only vomited once today , but sadly he's still got diarrhea and it smells bad!!!... I clean it out straight away when he goes just like i did when Champaz had it pretty bad also... I spoke to Catherine after 8.00am today and i told her what was going on with Blacky, so she asked me had he been drinking, going to the toilet , still alert... Now i haven't given Blacky his tablet today, but for some reason she wants him to keep having the 1/2 tablets day/night per day still.....Catherine did how ever say that if Blacky looked lethargic in any way im to ring her back tomorrow morning after 9.00am for her to decide if he's to stay on the tablets.... After Blacky was sick and runny, he's been in hiding for most of the day, he's on the lounge chair under the pink blanket that draped over the chair, and he was coughing for a while before he started to hide away.... I noticed he also coughed a little after he threw up some bicsuits... So truly im only going to give Blacky 1/2 a tablet once daily, i know he will still have the runs but hopefully not as bad!! So only another 6 more days till he see's Catherine on the 20th June at 1.20pm... Im not sure how much more his little body can take, with everything that happening all at once!! When i see Catherine on Monday i going to insist on the "blood work" to be done as it should let her know whats flowing bad through his blood!! So that's all i can tell you guys for now, so im basically on "litter duty" and watching my boy even more carefully now!! Michelle and Blacky!! xxxxx

UPDATED... At 7.10am...15/6/2011..
Blacky had a comfy night last night, but he did however diarrhea just before i went and sat on the lounge, that was around 11.30pm last night..... So he's still now drinking fresh water, eating biscuits, going to the toilet (peeing) , still alert ,sleeping when he can, meowing when i ask him questions LOL.., laying in the sunshine ,getting brushes every day ,and eating some food that i leave out for Champaz for dinner's ,coming into the kitchen when myself and Jason are in there ,coming up the side of the bed while im reading just to meow and then walk off... He did try to feral with Champaz at 3.00am early in the morning LOL and most of all he's still now got his wet nose.... Now his tablets he still gets now instead of 1/2 im only giving him a 1/4, so he's still getting covered but not as much just so the diarrhea tries to settle down.... Now so far there has been no coughing what so ever (yeah) but still got my finger's , and everything else that will cross that it stays gone... so that's all i can tell every body for now (finger's ,toe's , arms, leg's eye's lol) that he's finally coming good.. Michelle , Champaz and Blacky xxxxxxxx..

ANOTHER UPDATE... At 7.37pm... 15/6/2011..
So i spent most of the day with Blacky, so far no vommiting, he hasnt been to the toilet yet... But still eating , drinking , sleeping , meowing and coming up to me on the lounge for cuddles... But during the day i looked over at Blacky on the lounge chair, and he looked like he was going to cough and nothing!! So im really hopeing that he's on the road to recovery (yeah).... I took this capture when the sun came out and he was near the "cat grass".... Cheers Michelle Blacky and Champaz... xxxxxxxxx..

MYSELF..
Not so good, im seriously run down bad , havent sleeped since this roller coaster ride started....Im holding off on the pain killer for now i need to be fully alert for my boy..... I've still got the head aches ,and i was a little sick today, haven't eaten much just had some water... But i truly know how Blacky feels cause i've got a touch of diarrhea myself too.... But im keeping strong for my boy till i know he's 110% better.... Thanks for all the lovely support shown to Blacky and myself i know in "flicker world " i have the only true friend i need... Cheers to each and everyone of you .... Michelle xxxxxxxx..

UPDATED AGAIN.... At 4.35pm....16/6/2011...
Another day of Blacky eating , drinking ,talking, peeing ,playing with Champaz , having a 1/4 tablet /per day.. Now he did however eventually do poopies, still slightly runny from the diarrhea still..... So there's been no vommiting what so ever.... Now sadly the coughing came back today , he was coughing in the morning before his tablet and after when he did have the tablet and nothing since then... It's still the deep seal cough and the crackling is there too, but still doesn't go on forever like it used too.. And he still is getting to have some descent sleep through the day.... He had a play with Champaz in the "Cat Tunnels" i brought out when the sun was shinning, but now we are heading for some bad rain starting on Friday.... He is also sneezing too, so is Champaz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.. So Blacky is out in the lounge room getting warm... So he still has the booked vet appointment on Monday 20th June at 1.20pm..... So i'll see what "Catherine" has to say after she give's him another check-up.. Thanks for your visits to Blacky and for all of your kind comments and helpful advice for my boy... Cheers Michelle , Champaz and Blacky xxxxxxxxx..

Thanks for all the encouraging "get well" comments all of you have been giving me also along the way..... Im still sick but not as much, im drinking heaps of bottled water, still stressed for my boy... But sadly i still cannot sleep i did try truly i did for 1/2 an hour while Blacky was asleep on me while getting cuddles it's hard i know im tired, way tired but i just carn't, so i clean during the night to be with Blacky during the day... I dont understand why i've lost my appetite , but food doesnt interest me at the moment... When Jason does make something i nibble and he takes the rest to work for his lunch the next day... But i will get better i just dont know when at the moment!! Cheers to you all Michelle xxxxxxxx..

Why is Falun Dafa a Science of Both Mind and Body?

Why is Falun Dafa a Science of Both Mind and Body?

Dr Alexis Genin, Ph.D.

I’m a junior scientist who graduated in human genetics and is specializing in neurobiology. My thesis was about the molecular mechanisms of learning and memory, and I’m now working as a researcher on an EEC-sponsored program in Paris.

Being a junior scientist, I will just respectfully present my experience with Falun Dafa, try to let you know how it objectively approaches the truth, and why, as a young atheistic person and an everlasting skeptic, I have found deep rationality and truth in this teaching.

Let me introduce my background first. I was educated in an atheistic family, and concluded early on that man creates the idea of god and other superstitious notions because life is boring and he is afraid of dying. Like many, I was driven into science by a strong will to understand things like the mechanisms of life, human behavior, and conscience. Philosophy looked interesting but did not give any concrete insight into objectivity, that “realness” that a scientific experiment can give. With science, it turned out that one could attain the truth, find answers or at least clues as to where we come from, why we exist and where we are going. Why this way and not another, why sickness and suffering, love, hate, cruelty.

I turned to neurobiology, and discovered the fascinating world of our brains – billions of cells acting mainly through their interconnections, creating harmony and efficiency through an apparent chaos of overlapping electrical signals and focal chemical secretions. Matter and thought united in this special place, in the most complex system of our body. But, most importantly, during my years in College I learnt the scientific method and the concepts of objective investigation.

Science, my teachers said, should never be dogmatic. Every scientist has the duty to criticize and have doubts about every single scientific model. The history of science is one of models everyone agrees to be the best description of the truth that are suddenly wiped out by new discoveries. Then new concepts emerge, opening a world of new discoveries. So a valuable a priori in coming to terms with any scientific subject is to consider that what is unknown to us is almost everything, and what we know is a tiny little bit through which we try to understand things. To illustrate the fact that our science is by definition impermanent, we just have to remember the time when quantum theory was introduced in the world of physics. It was an earthquake. Physicists believed they understood and had put into equations all the physical laws when suddenly it appeared that, in fact, they knew only a very limited part of it. Another earthquake is currently taking place, from what I have read, in the field of astrophysics. The most recent astronomical measurements could completely change our view of the universe because they are far from fitting our current models of cosmic evolution.

I was deeply impressed by this notion of an ever-changing science, and understood that scientific models should be considered tools rather than unchangeable truths. When I encountered Falun Dafa, I was still a Ph.D. student. Walking in a park one morning, I saw some people meditating. Since it was looked nice, I thought it would be fun to try it.

That was the beginning of what one could call a scientific experiment. While practicing, I felt strange sensations in my palms that my knowledge of nervous system failed to explain. Then appeared a sudden heat in the belly. I was surprised and decided this was an interesting field to explore. Along with the practice sessions came various fine and complicated sensations in the body. I asked for a book explaining the practice method and found these sensations to be accurately described. As I later read the book Zhuan Falun [The main text of Falun Gong] for the first time, it seemed like a fairy tale from ancient China. I found it quite funny at first but also quite good, because it stressed the importance of morality and selflessness. In the end, I came up with the thought that this book could actually be considered to be a research paper claiming some striking results, with a “materials and methods” part. In the research community, when a result seems strange or exceptional, the first thing people do is to try to replicate the experiment, to see whether it works or not. Therefore, I did that.

The biggest difference from the science I was used to was that there was no microscope needed, no radioactivity, no brain slices and no PCR technique. My own body was the tool of research, and the book Zhuan Falun was, to put it very, very schematically, the protocol. I must say this is a very intricate and refined protocol, and if any step is not done well, you may not get the expected result. But scientists know that in research we are used to failing 99 times in 100 before we find the optimal conditions.

It may sound strange to take what looks to be no more than a spirit

An Architecture the opposite of an ad in the subway,
one where there's room for the odor of feet,
for trembling, insecurity and fear.
In the subway, fear makes people connect,
ever present like thin water we all splash through when we walk;
we look at each other's faces, we look in each other's eyes,
surrounded by lifeless signs, we are life.

Architecture is meaning only because it is habitation
but can be inhabited in different ways.
I wish to inhabit it as someone
who walks the city at night, in the dark.
Darkness means intimacy, open boundaries,
being closer to dreaming. From it, it seems easier to enter utopia.
Against black, colors can be perceived as gleams,
metal becomes its shine, impotence fades.

Can Architecture be more under the ground?
Or hang in the air almost without touching the ground?
Can a building disappear from my eyes and reappear, as it were,
in my mind through my love of it, through my need of it?

[This is how I once missed the city:
"I'll see you at that corner,
in looking to the ground, walking on the ground,
feeling it, so different,
so blind of it I am since I came here.
Dirty clean mouse street tile of going to work
Who goes to work?
Speak to me with all your parts!
Fill me in looking at smooth, worn out,
well stepped over metal edges, and I will
get tired and bump into your faces that don't know
the stands with magazines, maps, calendars,
ever slipping away from my hands, from my care.
For even the trees know,
with their trunks full of rings
embracing each other like men:
they see us from above, from what little we have,
from over balconies, leather shops
of nights not like the ones before,
theaters already made of other places,
pizza places, record stores, all deep, all generous.
All has me, all writes me man and woman, piece of passing."]

Architecture as creation emancipates from me
although as habitation it stays tied to me almost sickly.
When I make it,
it is something that somebody else will miss.

None is the difference between plant and city, city and families,
people on a train platform and books on a shelf,
the connectedness of the roots of trees and
the connectedness of the roots of men,
the need for food, water, air.
The lights of different cities are connected and
when cars rush through the sparkly arteries
they all go through parts of one same body.
Death, or miss-living anywhere,
affects the status of life everywhere.
If cities, or societies, or countries, or the world,
are a tissue just like the skin on my knee,
that tissue is full of scars, scrapes that don't heal,
forever bleed.

And 'green' architecture?
Self sustainable buildings, with operable windows,
solar cells, grass roofs or recycled materials?
The greenest thing: that everyone had enough to eat.

The addiction to seeing, to thinking oneself in chaos and
chaos as a constellation of knowledge to be reached and controlled.
The will to compress information, to freeze in book form
the infinity of the internet or the city.
The Encyclopedia - a disgrace?
But culture doesn't have an author, it is unbindable,
it doesn't begin or end, nor it can't be owned or claimed.

Truth,
creation as taste, taste as ethics,
as a means to a rhythm, a breath.
No mission, no end, no purpose, no preaching.
The antidote to bluff: the incongruence of being.

Day 156

Day 156

Day 156
Fairly unproductive day at home today. I've been so tired lately I can't seem to concentrate and spent the first hours of the morning in a bit of a stupor. Irritating.

In the afternoon Celyn and I had decided that Gyro, our loach (fish), has disappeared from the fish tank. He was always one to hide in the dark corners but we searched the fish tank thoroughly and could find no trace. I check the filter and there was what seem to be traces of very fine fish bones. I can only conclude that he died some time this week and the goldfish ate him. How macabre! Either that or he constructed a water suit and escaped the tank.

Celyn and I went to the pet shop in the afternoon to get a replacement but I wasn't convinced the salesman knew what he was talking about and they didn't have the kind of fish we wanted so we left it. Gyro was a working fish: he kept the glass clean. Evidently we don't give the fish the kind of attention they need since this damn bird came along.

Mumsie's Fish Tank

Mumsie's Fish Tank

My Mum has a large fish tank - it's about 7 feet long by 4 feet deep by 3 feet thick, always thick with vegetation, and a breeding ground for platys (those orange fish). Interestingly, most of the fish groups keep to themselves, although that's not say there isn't some fierce fish politics with the larger fish. This is a shot of the fish at feeding time. The only chance you get to see them all out and in full view. Some of the fish that have been there for a while (like the clown loaches) seem to be aware of you staring at them, and won't come out while you are there unless it's feeding time.

The Indiana State House is home to this beautiful glass dome under its central rotunda. The stained glass dome stands 105 feet above the marble floor of the rotunda, supported by granite columns and tons of native Indiana limestone. The 72 foot diameter glass dome is naturally lit from above, through windows and openings in the exterior dome that rises to a full height of 235 feet.

The dome is original to the State House, so it was completed in 1888 when the building opened. By the time the State House was restored and renovated in 1988, this lovely dome was completely black and covered in opaque dirt because no one had ever climbed up there to clean it -- can you imagine losing this beautiful sight to a hundred years of dirt and grime?

The first month of my Project 52 is behind me, and I've visited three museums, a park, two churches, the grand opening of a performing arts center, and the state capitol in pursuit of worthy photos. I can't believe how much fun I've had so far, not to mention all of the cool stuff I've seen. And this is only the beginning, right? I'm so looking forward to the adventures I'll have once it's warm enough to go outside!

How things used to be...

5 exposure handheld HDR that I shot last March before the Terminator filming. I tried to keep colors as real as possible. I wanted to show details here, not make something unreal.

Notice how clean the windows are? They really used to look like that. Like stained glass. See the shiny beams? They reflected blue from every angle. So beautiful. And the little piles of wooden bricks and parts left over from the railroad days just made it perfect.

DEWALT D24000S Heavy-Duty 10-inch Wet Tile Saw with Stand

Light, ultra-powerful, and a breeze to set-up, the D24000S from DEWALT is ideal for renovating bathrooms, cutting porcelain and stone, or tiling a kitchen back splash or floor. The motor tilts and locks at 45 or 22.5 degrees for clean, smooth cuts without the need for an accessory cart block, and adjustable rollers help properly align the table. When tackling large projects, you'll appreciate the 24-inch ripping capacity (18-inch tile on diagonal). And to ensure smooth operation, two adjustable water nozzles allow for the correct positioning of spray on the blade, while optional rear and side water attachments capture over-spray so water stays in the five-gallon pan. Additionally, a 3-1/8-inch depth of cut gives you the option of cutting the majority of V-caps and pavers, and an edge guide with dual position 45-degree guide makes it a snap to line-up corner cuts. There's also an efficient 1.5 HP motor, flip-style edge guide for 90 and 45 degree set-up, and a tub-style bottom with four molded sections that fit into the included stand. And because there's a fully integrated durable stainless steel rail system in the saw frame, you'll enjoy precise cuts every time. When you're done for the day, the removable cutting cart gives you better access to the saw so you can clean up quickly and easily.

Another keyboard!

Another keyboard!

I've got a small Yamaha portable keyboard that's filled with 80s-esque sounds and beats. I figured it was due for a cleaning too, so I cracked it open. It took suprisingly long to disassemble it. Also, I wasn't able to find out much about how the keys correspond to the electric stuff in this one (I was interested as it isn't touch-sensitive like the other keyboard, but now I guess it'd be really similar) because I am a coward.

Just goes to show you how important it is to test something out long-term. I thought these internally-illuminated keycaps where the bee's knees in the cat's pajamas when they first came out. But to be honest, I can't remember any time when I actually used it. On any average notebook, if the screen's lit there's enough of a wash on the keyboard for easy typing.
